General Electric (GE) had been utilizing a proprietary stack based on Adobe Flex for their desktop app store, a critical tool for showcasing and demonstrating their industrial usage products. Their current tech stack Adobe Flex deprecated on the modern browser and Operating Systems.
Problem
- Main challenge was the current stack getting deprecated and turning out to be not being operational on the modern day browsers & OS.
- GE’s Sales team was losing on prospects every other day, Due to the unavailability of the high end systems to met the needs of adobe flex.
- Major challenge was lack of Knowledge transfer as well, Many modules and facets were unknown to their technical and functional team including even the assets and videos.
- There were monetary and opportunity lost, Which was impacting the business and C Level executives as growth progression chart was moving downwards.
Our Approach
- Started off with the challenging task of decompiling the Adobe Flex codebase to understand the logic and functionality of the application.
- React was chosen for its flexibility, component-based architecture, and a large developer community.
- Migrated Adobe Flex to React PWA with Electron. Enabling client and prospects to run the application not only on browsers but also install it as a desktop App.
- Canvas JS & React JS was used for custom animation.
- These initiatives enabled the Sales guys to reach out to their prospects more effectively.
Benefits
- Due to this one application modernisation business was able to derive the decision of upgrading the other legacy 30 applications.
- TAT for the client demo including preparation and actual demo was reduced to nearly 70%.
- PnL panel throughout the application has been improved.
